It is a beautiful mountainous region of Peloponnese, with incredible beauty and tourist appeal. It consists of picturesque stone buildings, old houses and clean, full of trees, streets. Vitina was the home of the great historian Constantine Paparigopoulos and of the jurist preceptor Vassilis Economides and of the hero of the Resistance, Lakis Santas.
Also, it was the region where the supply to the forces of Kolokotronis took place, in the years of the Revolution.
Your first stop is the visit to church of St. Tryphon, located in the central square. It is built in 1846 on the foundations of an older church. You can do many things, as to experience the beauty and the wonderful view and to walk amongst the trees, breathing the fresh air.

In the forest of Mainalo, you can do endless walks in nature, if you are a lover of nature, and of course to visit the ski resort to experience thrilling moments of skiing or just relaxing and enjoying the view along with a cup of hot coffee. In the region, you can indulge in a variety of activities such as mountain bike, 4X4, rafting in the Lousios River and many other.
While you are in Vitina, do not forget to visit the Folk Museum at the central square with the great exhibits and the historical material. It is worthwhile.
On this occasion, a very good suggestion is to tour to the surrounding villages. Some of them are Elati of Arcadia, a stone-built village located deep in the forest of Mainalo at an altitude of 1200 m. Magouliana is a beautiful village at an altitude of 1367m. and, at its entrance, you will see the two stone bridges.
Also, in a relatively short distance (12.3 km), you can visit the beautiful Dimitsana. Another picturesque village is Nymphasia, rich in sights such as the monastery of Kernitsa. The distance from Vitina is just 2 km. |
