Lagadia
Lagadia is a traditional picturesque Arcadian village of Gortynia, consisting of stoned masterpieces, built with an impressive amphitheatrical way on a steep slope of the mountain at an altitude of 900 meters, with many running waters.

It is also the place of the renowned masons of Lagadia - craftsmen of stone, something that is obvious from the houses in the area. Today, Lagadia's population reaches 800 inhabitants.

The jewel of the village is the central plaza, covered by plane trees and surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
The upper part of the village "Pano Gitonia" besides its charm boasts also for the excellent views.

Craftsmen of Lagkadia
It is said that the people of Lagkadia originate from the craftsmen - workers who built the Castle of Akova, during the period of the 13th century, under the guidance of Franks.
The mountainous and barren land and the limited land for cultivation pushed inhabitants to the profession of mason - craftsman.

They developed and nurtured their art in a systematic way, which was "left" to their offspring, a fact which created the craftsman tradition of Lagadia.

Chronologically, they flourished in the 18th century, when most residents of Lagadia systematically engaged with the art of the builder.

Lagadia festival:

In recent years, the Association of Youth of Lagadia, "Drasis", in Langadia organizes and conducts the weekend of Carnival, an authentic, interactive, Arcadian Carnival, inspired by nature, myths and traditions of the place, giving the opportunity to visitors to spend special moments of fun and entertainment.

This unique carnival, with the participation of the villagers, manages to revive every year the legendary figures of Menalo, and the rich traditions of their homeland in order to "exorcise" the winter and any kind of disappointment, calling people to live moments of joy and fun in the heart of the Peloponnese.

The curtain of the four-day celebrations, which are now an institution for the whole region, opens on Friday with various performances and events, which normally are organized by the students of the high school of Lagadia, and after follows a mask-party with music and sweet treats.

On Saturday is the outdoor festival with bonfires and bright balloons, while the traditional custom of "sweat of the eggs" is revived, while the cinders burn and the drink flows abundantly.

The events close on Pure Monday, with the preparation of the traditional bean soup for the residents and the visitors too.
