The impressive settlement of
Gerolimenas in Mani is built by the sea on the east side of Grosso Cape and is one of the most traditional and authentic villages of Mani of Lakonia with its stone houses to reach the sea.
The small natural harbor in the homonym bay, was formerly the commercial port of Mesa Mani and an important fishing shelter with significant ice disposal facilities, shops for fish trading and an area for the approaching if sponge-boats.
In recent years, it has shown a strong growth of tourism with important and remarkable infrastructure, both in accommodation field (hotels, traditional hotels, rooms), and in entertainment and catering (cafes, taverns, restaurants).
Here, you can enjoy your coffee or taste the excellent fresh fish in one of the traditional taverns beside the waves, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views to the sea.
It has an easy access, once it is connected to the main road Gythion - Areopolis, which continues to the villages of Mani and is located about 50 km away from Gytheio, 95 km from Sparta, about 100 km from Kalamata.
Starting from the port of Gerolimenas, you can explore the entire west coast of Mesa Mani up to Tainaro Cape, by your own boat.
It is a district and it belongs to the Municipality of Itilos.
Is considered to be at the place of ancient Ippola and owes its name to the fact that in ancient times was considered as a "Holy Port" - "Ieros Limenas".
On Turkish occupation period, Gerolimenas was one of the bases of pirates of Mani.
