Fishermen at Agia Kyriaki
making their nets |
A specimen of the polymorphism of Pelion is the village Trikeri, with all the characteristics of an island dorp. The habitants were fishermen, sponge divers and brave captains, the mansion houses of which are preserved till today and dominate at the narrow cobblestone pavements of the village. The tradition that wants the women to wear the local apparel at the feasts and the picturesque festivals is still preserved alive.
The churches of Agios Athanasios and Agia Triada, where the throne of Napoleon is found, show interest.

An island without vehicles, with a picturesque dorp and small quiet beaches. The hospital monastery of Panagia dominates at its top. Opposite the islands Mikra.
Dense built at the top of the ancient cape Aianteion, right at the entrance of Pagasitikos, the historical sea-village Trikeri stands as a sleepless lookout.
At its port, Agia Kyriaki, the visitor faces a fleet of any kind of smacks and the storm-tossed kind-hearted Trikerians.
The history of the village starts at the middles of 1700. The Trikerian captains were from the first ones that participated at the Revolution of 1821.
A great sample of the majesty and the old courtliness are the churches with the carven temples, the tower houses of the captains, the picturesque customs of the marriage, Easter, May Day and the precious golden women's apparel.
At Trikeri the habitants, are traditionally occupied with the sponge diving. The sponge divers, during the whole year set out to harvest, at the deepness of the sea the precious sponges.
June the Trikerians, at the port of Agia Kyriaki organize a fishermen's night for a three-day and give all their grief and their hack value at the dance and sing. This dancing is a dream of indescribable beauty and majesty.
At Trikeri the dorps Kotes belong as well, an east port of the village Palaio Trikeri with the picturesque, lacy sandy beaches. |

The throne of Napoleon |
|
"A masterpiece of the wood carving is the temple with vegetarian or animal figures, at the partitions of which there are the dominating pictures of byzantine style. Under and beside the pulpit there is a carven throne, which the Trikerian captains have brought in 1815 from Barcelona, on which it is believed that Great Napoleon was designed to sit. Today, it is the throne of the silvercoated picture of Panagia Eleousa".

Tower house Fourtouna |
Interior of the Tower house Fourtouna |
Built around 1770, with initial owner Georg. Koumbourellos, the imposing three-floored building has been characterized as a tenable monument, with external consoles, stone-graven and a solar clock. From the slab-paved yard someone can dream towards the entrance of the Pagasitikos gulf, while at the interior of the tower a thick wooden door of small dimensions leads, which is secured by the "katapidi" at the upper part, the "door lock" and the "cascades".
With carven ceilings, plentiful light by the loophole, old furniture and plentiful heirlooms, among which there are also detected the original historical manuscripts of the Revolution of 1821.
It is a museum that continues to live.

For once more I take the long and nice road for the edge of Pelion. Chorto, Milina, Tzasterni, emerald gulfs and breathtaking beaches. Diakopi, Kotes, turns that ascend towards Trikeri, places familiars

and loved, inextricably tied up to such memories. |
Sometime the turns end and I watch Trikeri opposite to watch from the loftiness of its hill the wild saddle of Tissaios, but to keep the more glances and the erotic ones for the great age-old love of its, the sea. |

The famous cobblestone pavement |
The amazing cobblestone pavement with the picturesque
turns that connects trikeri with its port agia Kyriaki is one of the most beautiful pedestrian possibilities for the visitors and is famous for its construction.
It is out of use now, but the community of Trikeri preserves this unique creation. |
"Louki" |
Under the building there is a pool that used to be supplied by the water of the wells and was used so as the Trikerians could wash their heavy clothes. Until some years ago it was out of sight, literally smuggled away, among dense bushes. Now, it is going to be one of the places of interest of this traditional course, which the visitor from Trikeri will be able to follow. Beside it, the much subsequent well of Karavaggelis is, which was constructed in 1957 by the benefactor of the village. These are mentioned by the active president of Trikeri, Mr. Nikos Fourtounas. |
