The municipality consists
of 4 villages:
Portaria, Ano Dryanouvena of Byzantines with
the church of Panagia Portarea after which it was
named, the source Mana, the platans and the ambulant
waters.
Alli Meria: A newer traditional dorp. An
old pasture that managed to become one of the most
beautiful villages with flower cultures and an excellent
view towards Volos.
Stagiates: with the source of its clean waters
and its tradition on tasteful sausages and Katichori that has a reputation for the wine and the tsipouro,
the amphitheatrical arrangement of its houses and
the warm people.
Portaria. The lady of the reception
It has
been the most important commercial center of the
24 villages of Pelion. The hotel "Theoxenia" after
1900 was considered to be the biggest and most luxurious
one of Balkans.
Today Portaria is "the lady of the reception" at
Pelion. The neoclassic mansion houses of it show
interest, many of which run as guest houses.
Every year at the ends of August the custom of the
Pelion marriage relives.
It is located between the beautiful coasts of Pagasitikos
and the snow of the tops of Pelion, where excellent
ski runs have been developed. It has decades of
hotels and guest houses.
Katichori
With the many churches
Outside the wonderful natural environment, there
can be considered as index marks of the village
both the four churches that are found inside the
village (Panagia, Ag. Apostoloi, Ag. Athanasios,
Ag. Paraskevi), the one of which, indeed, the one
of Agios Athanasios is byzantine and the spread
churches, remnants of the byzantine monasteries.
The visit to the churches gives the chance to those
that wish it, to have a wonderful walk.
One of its museum monuments is the public oil press,
which the Municipality has turned into a museum,
as it keeps the traditional way of functioning with
all the machines that were used since the 19th century.
