Vyzitsa has been characterized as the tenable village, been a live museum of traditional Pelion architecture that impresses the visitors from the first moment.
It is one of the better preserved Greek traditional |

dorps, with many mansion houses, a good net of cobblestone pavements that traverse the whole village and a unique natural environment, having a panoramic view towards Pagasitikos Gulf and Pelion.
In Vyzitsa you will enjoy the wonderful nature with the age-long platans, the fruit trees, the olive groves and the odoriferous herbs that grow in its blesses soil.
It is filled with beautiful towers, of Pelion architecture as: of Kontos, Geroulanos, Vergos, Katsanakis, Karagiannopoulos and Dimos.
It is located in an altitude of about 500 m, at the breathtaking mountain of the Centaurs, between the villages Milies (head of the prefecture) and Pinakates.
Its small distance from the capital of the prefecture, the gorgeous city of Volos (about 30 km), makes it an easily accessed destination.
The access to Vyzitsa is made mainly through Milies, but you should also follow the alternative way through Ano Lechonia, Agios Vlasios, Agios Georgios Nilias, Pinakates, Vyzitsa. The total distance is a lit bigger, but you will be compensated by the beauty of the way. |

The village is suffused with vegetation in a total harmony with the nature, with developed tourism in winter and summer and good enough infrastructure, while the imposing mansion houses give another dimension to the village. The Greek organization of tourism (EOT) has pushed the development of the village, by renewing the mansion and traditional houses of it.
The large paved with slabs square with the age-long platans, is offered to enjoy your coffee or to taste good traditional recipes at the diving stores. Have a tour at the cobblestone pavements of the village and enjoy the unique landscape.
Today, many of the old mansion houses run as guest houses, offering their hospitality in an atmosphere that will lead you to other eras.
It is worth visiting the monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos that was built in1789, the three winged basilica church of Zoodochos Pigi that ages since 1725, the church of Athonas, the central square with the stone built faucet, and the covered faucet "Mousga" of 1888.
You can participate havefun in the big festivals that are organized on July 1st -feast of Agioi Anargyroi, August 15 - feast of Panagia and at the feast of Agios Ioannis Prodromos on August 29, with the distribution of the traditional fava bean to the visitors.
If you are lovers of the walk and generally of hike, follow the cobblestone pavements that lead to different parts of it as well as towards the mountain. Another hiking way is the one that leads to the railway station of Milies (termination of "Moutzouris"), a relatively short and easy way.
Finally, another one cobblestone pavement starts beside Zoodochos Pigi, passes the waterfalls, the traditional dorp Argyreika and ends at Kala Nera.
Well, generally, the favorable position of Vyzitsa offers you the possibility for many excursions on foot or by car towards the wholw Pelion.
For the visitors of the summer period, the beaches of Pagasitikos Kala Nera, Koropi, Afissos, Kato Gatzea are is a relatively near distance, organized, clear and with many dining and amusement stores. |
