The settlement of
Agia Fotia is located 7 km east of
Sitia towards Vai. The name of the village comes from the church of Aghia Fotini of the region.
The settlement is of great archaeological interest, as at the beach of the region there is a cave, where are visible signs of life since ancient times.
The discoveries do not stop here..
On the hill Koufoto ruins of a Pro-Minoan building were discovered, which is a primary form of Minoan palaces of Crete.
At the Eastern side of this building, there is the biggest cemetery of the Bronze Age in Greek territory, where 1800 vessels of various types, were found.
Apart from the archaeological findings, the village has a very beautiful sand beach which is surrounded by tall pines!
