Ierissos

Ierissos. a place full of color and a peaceful atmosphere. Ierissos, also known as Ancient Akanthos, is one of the most beautiful areas of Chalkidiki, having a rich historic heritage.

Ruins of the wall of the ancient town, totally impressive and admirable, are saved till today. Ierissos extents at the third leg (area) of Chalkidiki, being just 100 km away from Thessaloniki and being the administrative centre of the new municipality of Stagira- Akanthos. It is the oldest and biggest village of the municipality and is occupied by 3118 habitants.  
It is the continuity of the Arcient Akanthos which was a colony of Andrii on the 7th century B.C. and an important town of Macedonia, as it is characterized by the historians and is revealed by the archeological research. Ierissos is an important harbor at the north Greece, with a very large fishing fleet, while the fishes of its gulf are known throughout Greece for their taste.

Despite the noted fame of Akanthos for its wine, the younger generation is mainly occupied in fishery, marine architecture, trade, constructions for Agio Oros and tourism.

Ierissos, a place of visit either for its golden sandy beaches, as well as it is a point of going to Agio Oros.
Its beaches and the various and live amusement make it a unique destination for holidays.

On its roads you will find a lot of accommodation for your stay, like rooms to let, studios, furnished apartments and hotels of various classes and possibilities, beside the famous beaches with the crystal waters.

There are also two organized installations for camping.
