kilometers from the low, gentle and cultivated valleys to the high and rugged peaks of Koudouni (1860m.), Gournos (1292m.) and Voskero (1119m.) that belong to the mountain of Psiloritis.
The locals are mainly engaged with vineyards, olive groves, fruit trees, and livestock of sheep-goats. Noteworthy is that on the plateau of Krousonas, at an altitude of 1200 meters, there are 300,000 cultivated pear and apple trees.
In Krousonas, there is also a women association that produces large varieties of bakery products and pastries with local materials and traditional local recipes.
In the village there are three old stone fountains, the upper old fountain, the bottom old fountain and the small fountain that were used for watering the region until 1900 and are retained in a good condition even today.
The existence of Krousonas is confirmed by various historical findings, from the very old, at least seven hundred years ago.
The name of the village according to a version, which is considered the most prevalent and which agrees with the local tradition, is that the name of Krousonas existed as an ancient name of the place. According to this version, in this place, races of the ancient inhabitants of Krousonas were taking place. During the races, the shocks of the weapons and of the shields were strong, thereby giving the name of Krousonas, i.e. the location of the shock.
Another version says that Krousonas was a place for pirate's gathering.
In recent years, a tourist development has begun, prioritizing in the mild form of tourism.
Also, in the village there are several taverns and restaurants where you can taste the delicious dishes of mountainous Crete, made by natural ingredients, such as meats and cheese, vegetables, fruits and the excellent wine.
If you visit the Monastery of Saint Irene, you will have the opportunity to admire and to buy handmade embroidery, unique creations of nuns. Also, in the monastery operates a shop where you can buy various religious memorabilia and souvenirs.

Cultural and religious events in the area:
All year long, the locals make cultural events and honor the Saints with various religious events such as:
- In Krousonas, they celebrate St. Haralambos on February 10
- The celebration of St. George on April 23 or the day after Easter
- The celebration of St. Irene on May 5, with a festival
- The St. John Psilos on May 8, above St. Irene church, that is a livestock festival and all the guests enjoy the treats.
- In late May and in early June, the Koures take place (sheep shearing) each year in Krousonas in the farms and they have a festive character (baking meat, offerings of dairy products, plenty of wine and a traditional feast) and it attracts many visitors.
- On the day of St. John the Baptist, June 24, the feast begins by the young men and women in the villages of Krousonas and of Sarchos with traditional celebration and serenades.
- Panagia Kera celebrates the day of the Assumption, on August 15
- The monastery of Jerusalem in Loutraki is honored on November 2, on Entrance of Virgin Mary.
- On November 3, at the celebration of the removal of Remains of St. George, the club of wine producers opens the wine barrels and they taste the new wine with a traditional feast in place of Prinikefala.
- On September 14, in Sarchos, during the celebration of Holy Cross (patron saint of the village) there is a feast, and many people are visiting it every year.
- On Good Friday in Sarchos, during the procession of the Epitaph round the two squares of the village, the young people have made effigies of Judas, which are hanging above large piles of wood, and they burn them during the passage of Epitaph.
- Also, in the same period in Sarchos, the cultural association organizes two-day traditional event in celebration of the Cherry (cherry offerings, tours to cave of Chonos, to Folklore Museum, to the library in Watermill)
- In mid-August, every year is the annual commemoration of the 42 heroes, died during the German occupation, with an official character (the village of Sarchos has been declared as a martyred Village).
- In Korfes, the celebration of the Life Giving Spring is taking place on the first Friday after Easter, where there is a feast in Panagia Kavalara.
- At the festival of Soultanina in August, when the All-Hellenic competition of serenade is taking place.
