Wherever you're found faucets you'll see
By saying Pelion, the endless green and the fresh clear waters of it come in mind. This life-bringing power, the water, is the one that leaves you ecstatic.
The eye calms and the man's mind quietens, in any point of Pelion you may be found. A natural consequence, then, is the presence of countless faucets at this mountain.
In the whole Portaria, the visitor will find faucets and drinking fountains, austere or artistic or arched, spread both on the central road and in the cobblestone pavements.
Ascending then in Portaria, the first faucet that we meet is the one in front of the church of Panagitsa Paparriga.
A little lower, inside Xenias space, underneath the platan, beside Agios Taxiarchis, another stone built faucet dominates.
At the end of the national road, in front of Agioi Anargyroi, the containers of the habitants of Volos that ascend, piled, wait to be filled by fresh water.

stone built building that used to be an appendage of Theoxenia, another stone built one, the water of which is running all day long.
At the town hall of Portaria, the stone faucet inside the surrounding place, another stone built with Propan stones, gorgeous as well. At the parking, a little higher, another drinking fountain built by Propan stone.
Here, you can stop without the fear of the vehicles and enjoy the sight as well refresh. The faucet, a little higher than Agios Nikolaos, whitewashed, with the red bricks as a crewelwork on the national road, as well.
Ascending towards Karavos, before the guest house of Devriadis, the mayor Vasilis Kontorizos has made two together, exactly under the beautiful playground.
At the end of the cobblestone pavement that passes in front of his paternal house, another faucet.
Going towards Erythros Stavros and passing the hotel "Portaria", underneath the great platan, another one prides built.
On the other side, on the provincial road Portaria- Makrynitsa, the faucet of Adamaina is found. From its own source, it has the best water. |
Inside the unique beauty of the natural landscape of Pelion, the ambulatory tourism blooms.
The visitor is charmed while walking on the pathways of Portaria, contacts the polymorphism of the nature and meets deeper and more essentially himself.
There are many paths, cobbly or agricultural, inside and outside the edges of the village, courses through which the excursionist meets traditional buildings and monasteries, stone faucets and old churches of byzantine and earlier historical value.
The most important is the so called "the path of the Centaurs", that follows a course beside the flume of the source "Mana".
The path "Iason", recently renovated and signed by the municipality of Portaria starts from the renovated rural residence of Lazos at Alli Meria and ends at Alykopetra, a little before Chania.

Another thing for which Stagiates has to be pound is its rich waters.
At the central square, a traditional faucet is found, which was built during the Turkish Domination and a plate is placed on it with the inscription of a Turk, as the older refer, on which, the Turk himself writes that his sick wife was cured by its fresh waters.
Finally, beside the natural beauty of the village, an important role play the two picturesque and traditional churches, Agios Athanasios and Agios Serafeim. |
