It is characterized as an area of great historical value and has maintained its pro-Homer given name.
According to Homer, Kardamili was one of the cities that Agamemnon wanted to give as dowry to Achilles, if he got married with one of his daughters.
Today is a tourist area, where a considerable number of tourists is gathered and is able to provide them with all necessary amenities.
If you follow the road to the west of the site, you will meet a beautiful pebble beach, Ritsa. There, you have the opportunity to enjoy your summer swimming.
If you go to
Stoupa, you will be impressed by the beach of "Foneas", which attracts large crowds due to its turquoise waters and the imposing rock, which dominates at the center of the bay.
It must be noted that
Kardamili is the ideal destination for lovers of hiking because of the trail, which starts from Viros Gorge and ends at the magnificent Byzantine churches in the area.
Those who decide to go to Kardamili, should be aware that there are plenty of sites to see.
Initially, at Pano Kardamili, the
Castle of Mourtzinos attracts the attention of all. The imposing arched gateway welcomes the visitors.
After that, the welcome continues by the post Byzantine church of
St. Spiridon, which "attracts" with the wonderful carved decorations and the elegant bell tower.
Nearby is the ruined three-storey
Tower of Mourtzinos and the ruined
towers of Patriarcheas and
Doumpeas.
Beneath the medieval castle of the 12th century, the
tomb of the Dioscuri is a registered trademark and is worth a visit.
Within a distance of 800 meters from the dock of Kardamili, lies the picturesque islet of Merope. Near its beach is the church of Virgin Mary, dating back in 1779, and only a few parts of it are saved.
