Beaches of Lefkada

The west coast of Lefkada hosts the most spectacular and famous beaches, which are known for their crystal waters, the sandy beaches and the huge rocks that hang up to the coast. Some of the most famous beaches with their own beauty you have to admire are: the Porto Katsiki, the Ammoglossa, the Castro, the St. John, the St. Nikitas, the Milos, the Kathisma, the Gialos and the Egremni.
The beaches Porto Katsiki, Kathisma and Egremni adorn the pages of travel magazines and newspapers in Greece and abroad and have gain a global reputation.
Porto Katsiki has been awarded as the best beach in Greece and one of the most popular in the Mediterranean, impressive at the first glance. The steep white cliffs that hang above the wonderful beach in combination with the turquoise waters are creating a spectacular image that will impress you for sure.

At the eastern and southern part of Lefkada, the beaches are lee, mainly with pebbles but always with crystal waters. Of these, the major and best known are: Ligia, Nikiana, Perigiali, Nidri, Desimi, Poros, Ammousa, Agiofilli and Vassilici.

If your preferences are the quiet and secluded beaches, the Nisakia, Kalamos and the Kastos are there for you, accessible mainly by the sea.

  Porto Katsiki, the "famous" [Lefkada:
southwest of the island]
 

It is regarded as one of the top beaches of the Mediterranean, with the white cut of the mountain and with the towering white cliffs and rocks, leaving a small strip of beautiful beaches with crystal blue waters that offers a stunning picture.
It is located near Athani, approximately 45 kilometres from the capital of the island. During the summer season it is full with thousands of visitors who come to admire and to swim in the magnificent waters.
 
 

You can visit Porto Katsiki by excursion boats that depart from Lefkada, Nidri and Vassiliki.
It is one of the beaches you should definitely see and besides swimming you can admire the magnificent sunset.

If you can visit Porto Katsiki from the sea by your own vessel or with any of the many boats which are making trips to the beaches of Lefkada, then do it.

  Egremni, the "magnificent" [Lefkada:
southwest of the island]
 

The impressive and famous beach of Egremni is located about 30 km from Lefkada.
With a length of up to two kilometres, with thin white pebbles, with turquoise waters, with spectacular hills that encircle it and several steps that you need to descend in order to visit it, Egremni is among the most beautiful Greek beaches.

An informal poll is carried out for many years with the competitors "Egremni" and "Porto Katsiki" with no real winner, as Egremni has its fans and Porto Katsiki gets the most awards.

just enjoy the wonderful beaches with the great clear waters.

  Kathisma, the "destination" [Lefkada:
in west of the island]
 

It lies on the western coast of Lefkada and is a long beach with white sand and turquoise waters.
It is one of the most developed tourist beaches and a favourite destination for young people.
Friends of paragliding can find there their own place to engage in their favourite sport.

The distance from Lefkada is 14 km.

  Avali, Kavalikefta, Megali Petra [Lefkada:
in west of the isaland]
 

Below the settlement of Kalamitsi and within walking distance are the beaches of Avali, Kavalikefta and Megali Petra.
All three beaches are quiet without having a tourist development.

  Gialos [Lefkada:

The combination of the rocky landscape with the beach, gives a wild beauty to this beach in the western part of Lefkada.
The water here is crystal clear, like all beaches of the island.

  Ammoglossa [Lefkada:
north of the island]
 

We will see it when entering the island with its clear waters and the golden sand.

  Agios Ioannis, for "sports" [Lefkada:
northwest of the island]
 

It is located in the north-western part of the island, near the island's capital.
It features turquoise waters and a beautiful beach with strong winds that make it ideal for learning sports such as windsurfing and kite-surfing. The classic windmills complete the landscape of the beach, giving a unique appearance to it.
 

The beach of Agios Ioannis (St. John) got its name from the homonymous chapel and it is touristic developed with several cafes and taverns.

It is just three kilometres from the town of Lefkada and is an ideal beach for Windsurfing and Kite-surfing.
