Life in Chora
The ascent to the Virgin Mary above the Chora will reward you.
Prefer the time of sunset to enjoy the view of Chora and of the sun that falls behind Milos and Kimolos, and also to admire the unique architecture of the building, the Roman statue, which is built into the high steeple.
For your dinner you can choose the crowded restaurants on the beautiful squares of Chora or the calmness of Karavostassis, of Agali and Ano Meria.
The local recipes will satisfy your taste without incommoding your wallet. And after the dinner, if you are ready for night-life, you will remain in Chora. Here you will find bars and clubs with music of all kinds, large and small, where you will get involved in cheerful companies that enjoy a drink in this "scenery".
At the Kastro of Chora, what was once the only settlement on the island, you will wander more than once, day, night, dawn, to enjoy the magical ambience of the quaint streets and the small houses with the large white staircases, great works of unknown builders. |

Ano Meria.
The tradition remains more alive in Ano Meria. You will see it anywhere you look. A place of strong winds and of people that are deeply rooted in this corner of earth.
It is worth the time to stroll the cobblestone paths, to experience the generous view, to enjoy a swim at the beaches, to acknowledge the polite people. And if you feel hungry, you will be happy if you taste "matsata", the handmade pasta and the other well-cooked dishes, that are almost all locally produced.
The touch of nature on the island is omnipotent. In Folegandros, you become one with the wind, the smell of the sea, the open and endless horizon.
The lovers of hiking can follow the trails to the remote beaches and churches, can climb on Agios Lefteris to watch the sunset, can go down in Karavostassis to enjoy the arrival of the ship, can wander in Ano Meria to feel the whistling of the wind.
The island is ideal for walking and swimming. After the walk on the trails, it is a pleasure to dive in the clear waters with the pristine sea bottom and to rest on the rocks and the pebbles.
Agali.
A large sandy beach with crystal clear waters in a protected location from the north wind. Next to the beach, there is a newly village that it is developed year by year. Here, there are rental rooms and quiet taverns with fresh fish. Small paths are leading to nearby beaches, Fira, Galifos and Agios Nicholas with its beach-trees.
Chrysospilia.
It is a great nature monument and unique in Greece, known for the many ancient names that are written on the stalactites and on the walls of this large and inaccessible cave.
Because of the archaeological work, the Chrysospilia remains for now inaccessible to the public. |
