It is an island - volcanic edifice, an outdoor geological museum with abundant hot springs, rich flora and fauna.
Mandraki is the capital and the port of the island and it is extremely pictorial. Several traditional houses are decorated with colorful stones. It is worth visiting the picturesque harbor in front of the buildings of the hot springs, the ancient cemetery, the Paleokastro and the monastery of Evangelistria.
The Emporios village is famous for its central square, which gathers all the traffic.
Above the volcano is the village Nikia, a picturesque mountainous village with stone-built houses and courtyards full of flowers. You can swim at the nice beach of Avlaki.
The Pali is a picturesque fishing village full of tourists, with a beautiful beach. It is worth visiting the caves in Katsouni along the homonym beach.
If you visit Nisiros you should try orgeat, sweet fresh tomato, capers and chick pea balls. |
