Tourist Guide of Koufonisia

Koufonisia islands are two of the smaller islands of Cyclades. This is the Ano and Kato Koufonisi and only Ano is inhabited. Ano extends in an area of 3.5 sq. km and of 4.3 km Kato Koufonissi.
An absolute fishing spot and an ideal retreat for those want relaxing and peaceful holiday. In recent years, an increased demand has been observed as there are many people who want to visit it.
Pristine beaches, clear waters, fresh fish are some of its features. The beaches are largely sandy with turquoise waters.
Some of the beaches you should visit are Finikas, Pori, Porta, the Platia Punta and Kato Koufonisi, which is really a very nice experience for the more adventurous swimmers.
Finikas is a long sandy beach; Pori has fine sand and is a paradise on earth. Few years ago the access was difficult, because of the rough road and Platia Punta is equally splendid, and addressed more to nudists.

You can combine your vacation going to the island of Naxos, which is very close to Koufonisia and in summer months there is regular service, and you can also go by boat in just 20 minutes.
Apart from their famous sea, they have several cultural elements that worth a visit. The picturesque churches like St. Nicholas and St. George and the church of Virgin at Kato Koufonissi, which is built on ancient ruins, are overwhelmed by a crowd in mid-August.
Saint George is the patron saint of the island and the day is celebrated with procession of the image. Then is the feast in honor of the day.

Another day of festive in Koufonisia is the celebration of fishermen on June 24, where the skippers of boats cook kakavia (a fine variety of fish cooked in sea water!) and they offer it to attendees. The feast is accompanied by traditional dancing and singing.
Several findings of the Cycladic culture have been discovered like a pan-shaped vessel with an engraved star, which is exhibited at the museum of Naxos and other important findings from the Hellenistic and Roman times.
In the southern part of Koufonissia is Keros, an uninhabited island with a great cultural interest and there the famous statuettes of Piper and Harpist have been discovered, which are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Athens.

Koufonisia are suitable for several activities. You can explore many places on the island by walking and enjoying the magnificent views and you can visit, one by one, all the beaches that are relatively nearby. Those who are not fans of walking, they can visit these places by boat.
If someone has his own boat, he can visit secluded beaches, which are many and discover the wild beauty of the island with its impressive caves and the scattered islets.

The island offers generously its fish wealth and invites even the novice anglers to find it out. Whichever way you choose, snorkeling, fishing rod or fishing line, it is certain that the result will reward your attempt.
