The largest island in the Ionian Sea is the island of Kefalonia which gives to visitors several options for their vacation.
It is the island of Nikos Kavadias, Marinos Antipas, Andreas Laskaratos and countless other important people. Argostoli is the capital of the island and it has a range of worth seeing attractions and museums.
You can visit the archaeological museum, the Corgialenion library, the English bridge of Drapano, the Koutavos lagoon, the sinks in the peninsula of Lasi, the circular lighthouse of St. Theodor, the cave where Saint Gerasimos, the protector of the island, was an ascetic for 6 years, the monastery of Saint Andreas, the Lithostroto, the Natural History Museum of Kefalonia and Ithaca, the Maritime Museum of Farsa.
In Argostoli and the surrounding area you will find many hotels and rooms - apartments to rent.
Agia Eftimia is a seaside village with clean sea and rich natural beauties and if you go there, it is worth visiting the Monastery of Virgin Mary.
The Assos is one of the most beautiful villages in Kefalonia, and as is the Vlahata. Near to them you will find the village of Lourdata which is famous for the production of the best vegetables of the island.
Lixouri is the second largest city of the island after Argostoli. You can swim at the beaches outside the city Stalepeda, at the Xi with the red sand and at Mega Lakos. From Lixouri you should definitely go to the village Manzavinata where you will see the famous "Kournopetra" in the south.
The picturesque village of Poros is an important hub of transport of Kefalonia with Greece through the port. This is a fishing village with the surrounding villages Tzanata, Asprogerakas, Kampitsata, Keriza, and the Vochinas River is crossing it.
The Fiskardo is distinguished for the countless natural beauties, among them the port with the fishing boats, the houses of the Kefalonian architecture, the narrow streets that get their color from the blooming gardens and the blue sea.
Sami is the largest shopping center of the island, is a major tourist resort and its port connects Kefalonia to Italy. The famous catacombs attract thousands of tourists. The Svoronata and the Skala are coastal villages with a lively nightlife. Dias is an island, at southwest of Argostoli, where there was an altar of the leader of the gods of Olympus, Zeus. One hundred steps from the dock will lead you to the church of Virgin Mary of Vlacherna. On July 2 is the feast at the small church of Virgin Mary. |
