Tourist Guide of Anafi

According to mythology, it was a refuge for Argonauts when they were at risk due to the severe weather.

Anafi is located east of Sandorini Island. It is characterized as an island of "natural beauty". In recent years, it has a rich tourism development. Chora, the capital of Anafi, has wonderful views, many churches, piazzas, vaulted houses and narrow streets with whitewashed stairs. It has an extensive aquifer, rare for a Cycladic island. The artefacts from the excavations indicate that the island was inhabited since ancient times. The road from the picturesque port of St. Nicholas leads to Chora, which is amphitheatrically built on the hill.

The beaches of southern Anafi are sandy and the most are accessed only by the path that starts from Klisidi. On the main road Chora - Monastiri, you can leave your vehicle at many places and to get off to beaches after passing through private areas. In turn, the beaches at west, facing Santorini, have shingles and pebbles. Beaches with an easy access are the bay of St. Nicholas, Klisidi and the Great Roucounas. Beaches to discover are the Flamourou, the Exo-Roukounas, the Little Roukounas, the Katalymatsa, the Great River, Saints Anargyri, the Monastery beach (Prasies), the Vaya, the Burned Langada and the Livoskopos. Remain unknown the beaches of Agios Georgios, Kalagkathi, Prasa, Vaya and Kyparissi.
Η αυγουστιάτικη πανσέληνος βγαίνει μεταξύ των βραχονησίδων Παχιά και Μακριά και μπορείτε να τη χαρείτε από τις νότιες παραλίες.

The August full moon rises between the islets of Pahia and Makria and you can enjoy it from the southern beaches.

The roads were constructed in 2000. The main roads of the island are, east towards the Life Giving Spring Monastery, west, overlooking the Santorini towards to Vagia, Laki and towards Vrisi - Agios Mamas.

During your stay in Anafi, is worth visiting:

- The ruins of the Venetian castle of Chora
- The Archaeological Collection
- The ruins of the Temple of Apollo Aiglyti - Anafaiou
- The Monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa
- The Monastery of the Life Giving Spring
- The ancient port of Katalimatsa

- The one and only surviving Byzantine church of Saint Anthony in the island, which has frescoes of the 14th century

So, here is Anafi, with its residents to be the protagonists in the southeastern tip of Cyclades. Meteoric but stable, bare of trees but still hidden and honest in this alley of the sea.
